DIANE LOVING FOUNDER AND ART LADY SCHOLARSHIPS 2025

PIMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE ART STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

In its second year, The Southern Arizona Arts Guild granted $2,000 to Pima Community College for 7 student scholarships!

By donating scholarship funds to these Pima students, SAAG is helping to acknowledge these skilled and creative student artists while giving them financial assistance to continue their art studies.

David Andres, Director of the Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery West Campus, and SAAG member Patty Berdine have been instrumental in building this partnership between SAAG and PCC. When he visited the SAAG Gallery to give a well-attended presentation to our members he was so impressed with the quality of art in our gallery that he offered SAAG the opportunity to have a guild show at PCC, currently on exhibit in the Santa Rita Building.

The recipients of the SAAG donation scholarships are Rebecca Coffman Best in 3D, (Leaf Cutter Ant, Bronze sculpture); Julia Faltin, Best in Painting, (Does the Swallow Dream of Flying ); Jo Andersen, (Remembrance I, Tricolor Gum Bichromate); Chi-Vas White, Best in Sculpture, (Sit Ubu Sit, Handmade paper); Rachel Pagan-Sanchez, (Arizona Still Life, oil on canvas panel); Dottie Possee, (I’d Rather Be Crying To Enya, Ceramic sculpture); and Lisette Fuentes, Best in Ceramics, (Adventure Duck PaperWorks).

This year's jurors were Christine Brindza, Senior Curator of Art of the American West, Tucson Museum of Art; Chelsea Farrar, Curator of Community Engagement, University of Arizona Museum of Art; and Alexis Wilkinson, Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson.

JTED FOUNDATION

This year, the Southern Arizona Arts Guild added a new scholarship to our high school program through the Pima JTED Foundation. Pima JTED is a public Career and Technical Education District which works with business and industry and 14 member public school districts to provide premier CTE programs to approximately 22,000 sophomore, junior, and senior level high school students each year. Their award-winning programs are proven to increase student success, significantly contribute to our local economy, and afford students the chance to jumpstart their careers and do what they love in high school!

On April 22, 2025, SAAG awarded a $1000 scholarship to Nogales High School senior, Naomi Burgueno Lopez, who studied Fashion Design/Merchandising at JTED and fell in love with the sewing machine as soon as she understood how to use it!  Naomi intends to study at the University of California San Diego.  The JTED Foundation was very excited to have SAAG as a new donor this year and gave SAAG a very nice welcome and much appreciation!
