Tips for Open Artists Calls:

What is an Open Call? These are opportunities to submit your work for grants, redsidencies, online galleries, art competitions, and even publishing opportunities.

Not every Open Call is for every artist. Choose what fits you. And also do some research on the organization you are reaching out to. See how they have supported artists in the past. Decide if participating will enhance your portfolio.

Here is what you are going to need to apply:

• A strong portfolio, showing a consistant style

• An Artists Statement

• A Resume, one that highlights relevant experiences and education you have that fits with their exhibition or theme

• If this is a call for a residency or grant, they are going to want a proposal from you.

• If you applying for funding you will need to provide a budget.

• References may be asked for in certain instances.

Be sure to read the application guidelines carefully. Your application could get thrown out because you did not name files correctly of did not customize materials to meet their criteria.

Open Calls are a great opportunity for publicity and to build and maintain professional connections online.

Ultimately, you may find collectors that would not have otherwise seen your work if you did not step out of you box and into the world
