Abstract Paintings Inspired by Imagination and The Natural World

From the time I was a fine arts student at UCLA, modern art has fascinated me. On visits to museums and galleries I have always found myself drawn to non-representational work. To this day it continues to inspire my painting style, which is rooted in Abstract Expressionism.

My approach to abstract painting in acrylic and mixed medias is loose, free and playful. Layers of line direct the eye, while color evokes emotion, and shapes invite the viewer to interpret what they see. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of mark-making tools such as graphite, watercolor pencils, and my collection of scrapers of all kinds. When starting a work, I am never sure of its evolution and outcome, which is an exciting proposition for me, and, I hope, an interesting experience for the viewer.
