Artist Statement
My work bridges color, texture, form, and rhythm, channeling subtle and explosive energy into a philosophy of balance. Layering rich, luminous earthy acrylic pigments and mixed media, I build tactile, impasto surfaces where Realism and abstraction converge. Ambiguous, layered forms hover between translucent edges and defined lines, playing with light, shadow, and negative space. Incorporating subtle archetypal symbols in composition aims to invite viewers to project their imagination onto emerging figures, evoking curiosity and emotional resonance.
Rooted in the American Southwest, my palette and spatial awareness are shaped by the Arizona desert’s earth tones, dramatic light, and vast horizons. This foundation engages in a dialogue with European traditions—from Impressionist light to Romantic and Surrealist symbolism—alongside Native American, Mexican, and contemporary Western influences. This visual fusion maps the psychological landscapes I explore, bridging individual experience with our shared human heritage.
Bringing a unique perspective as an educator holding a doctorate and as a practicing psychotherapist, my inspiration lies in psychological interpretation. My approach bridges the therapeutic, educational, and creative realms, drawing from depth psychology, Jungian symbolism, and Adlerian concepts to make the invisible visible and the internal external. Through textured surfaces and symbolic depth, artmaking serves as personal inquiry and cultural expression—expressing what words cannot and connecting us through emotion, meaning, and shared experience.
Exhibited and awarded in solo and group shows in Arizona, internationally, in person, and virtually, my practice remains an evolving commitment to regular painting, experimenting with new techniques, materials, and psychological themes to expand the depth and range of my work.
Atmospheric glazes, impasto textures, and dripping vertical streams bridge the conscious and unconscious, evoking emerging figures in a liminal space.
Sweeping arc-like strokes of fiery ember and slate blue capture the clash of thermal atmospheric forces across a divided plane.
Explosive bursts of crimson and coral impasto erupt across cool, shifting background fields, embodying raw kinetic emotion.
